Music to Sooth the Stress

When I am stressed, I go to whatever country artist is in my head at the time. Some of my favorites are Josh Turner, Love and Theft, and Keith Urban. My favorite Josh Turner for now song is “Why don't we just dance.” It's my favorite because of the beat and the lyrics just lift me up and make me want to dance. I can't help but to get caught up in the moment when country music is playing. My favorite Love and Theft song at this point in time is “Runaway.” It's my favorite of theirs because it gives me a sense of freedom. I have no particular favorite song for Keith Urban. Whenever I hear his voice I just melt. There are many songs by him that I love. Some of them include “Only you can love me this way,” “Where the blacktop ends,” and “Better Life” to name a few. I really have no explanation for how country music takes the stress away. The only thing that I can think of is that it takes me back to my childhood when I didn't have to worry about anything. There are many other artists that I love listening to, but these are my current favorites.

  1. That is exactly how I feel about Trey Songz (you may not know him). Everytime I hear his voice I melt. And every time I have a song in my head and I sing it aloud, I immediately play it because my brain is like a radio station thats trying to find the song.

  2. Yay, Breanne, I am delighted to see that you love the music of Josh Turner and Keith Urban like I do. Their songs are so awesome, and I think the fact that you like the song "Why Don't We Just Dance" is really great! Country music is really a wonderful genre of music, and I totally agree with you that it takes away stress. I know what you mean when you say that you are unable to explain just how or why country music is so appealing and rejuvenating. To me, that fact that many of the songs are so realistic and deal with the real facts of life (instead of always going on about the pangs of love) may be why the genre can be found stimulating and refreshing. Again, great choices, and I am so glad to discover that we share a similar interest!

  3. Breanne! I cannot get enough of country music! I think my absolute favorite male country artist is Josh Turner. He just has that incredibly sexy voice that draws you in, no matter what he's singing about! Keith Urban is also one of those incredibly talented country artists. His music is so real and relatable. I think it also helps that he has mad guitar skills. And I think it's really cool how he's Austrailian and has an Austrailian accent, but loses it when he sings! It's crazy!

  4. Going to country music for comfort actually makes a lot of sense, Breanne. As a genre, it's entire history is one of singing about the joys (and pain) of home and home-like stuff. Country songs tend to be about that girl next door, not that girl in Paris. It's one of the reason so many folks love it--in many ways, it's aural comfort food. Not all of it, of course, but huge swaths of it.
